Mahaska Connect

Mahaska Connect is a Saturday morning event that brings services together in one place that will help remove homelessness barriers for neighbors. It is a holistic approach to address all four areas – physical, emotional, relational and spiritual. This includes, but not limited to: medical care, legal assistance, housing assistance applications, medicaid and food stamp applications, job opportunities, mental health resources, driver’s license, birth certificate, car seats, parenting resources, prayer team is available, etc. Each neighbor is paired with a volunteer to guide them through the services to encourage and advocate when needed. The experience ends with a meal with our neighbors.

Mahaska Connect is a one day event that focuses on serving those who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness in Mahaska County.

We believe every person is deserving of a safe place to live and we can strive to help those right here in our own neighborhood. Love INC, along with area churches, area agencies, local businesses, and volunteers, will be coming together to help remove barriers of homelessness. Volunteering is vital to the mission of Mahaska Connect. Our volunteers will be the loving connection between the homeless and the services provided.

“Seeing “Karl” get Medicaid on the spot after he initially told me(volunteer) he just needed a birth certificate. Then we visited the Driver’s License station, vision screening, and “Karl” received his flu shot. I (volunteer) could see the shift in “Karl” once he realized the event was for him to get all these things taken care of today,” said a guide volunteer.
